Tan pronto eligieron presidente a Obama le escribimos una carta que hoy reiteramos en su totalidad, d\u00edas despu\u00e9s de que Obama y el Congreso de EEUU aprobaran el TLC con Colombia, cuyo resultado solo puede ser despojo, destrucci\u00f3n y muerte para nuestros pueblos, Insistimos en nuestra palabra, palabra que hoy se camina en el mundo entero por los mismos motivos que enuci\u00e1bamos, esta vez, a partir del movimiento de Los Indignados.<\/p>\n

Mientras se impulse el libre comercio la vida est\u00e1 en riesgo y tendremos que levantarnos. Se\u00f1or Obama, se\u00f1ores de la \u00e9lite transnacional: es un solo planeta. Nos van a tener que escuchar.<\/p>\n

Se\u00f1or Respetado Se\u00f1or Presidente:<\/p>\n Le escribimos este mensaje con la convicci\u00f3n de que su elecci\u00f3n expresa los profundos deseos de cambio de la mayor\u00eda del pueblo estadounidense, cambio en el manejo de la econom\u00eda, en las relaciones sociales y en las relaciones internacionales y desde luego en la relaci\u00f3n entre los Estados Unidos de Am\u00e9rica y los pueblos ind\u00edgenas. Lo felicitamos por haber sido elegido por y para tan noble aspiraci\u00f3n de su pueblo.<\/p>\n Queremos que el nuevo presidente de Estados Unidos conozca la situaci\u00f3n de los pueblos ind\u00edgenas de Colombia, c\u00f3mo hemos sufrido m\u00e1s de 1.200 asesinatos en los \u00faltimos seis a\u00f1os, cometidos por paramilitares, guerrilleros, polic\u00edas y militares, es decir por grupos armados ilegales y por la fuerza p\u00fablica; c\u00f3mo esta circunstancia est\u00e1 siendo aprovechada para despojarnos institucionalmente de nuestros derechos con una legislaci\u00f3n de despojo, que incluye un estatuto rural y normas sobre miner\u00eda, hidrocarburos, aguas, acueductos, propiedad intelectual, parques nacionales, transferencias de recursos y que se completar\u00eda y eternizar\u00eda de entrar en vigencia el llamado Tratado de Libre Comercio con Estados Unidos, que obliga al pa\u00eds a indemnizar a los inversionistas si cambia sus leyes y a someter nuestros litigios con ellos a \u00e1rbitros internacionales por fuera de nuestra jurisdicci\u00f3n y bajo el imperio de las costumbres comerciales externas.<\/p>\n Esta l\u00f3gica mercantil que se impone por encima del respeto que merece la vida, ignora, vulnera y viola todos los acuerdos y convenios internacionales que la humanidad ha definido para poner por encima de lo particular el bien colectivo que es la vida. Por eso convenios como el 169 de la OIT y la Declaraci\u00f3n sobre los Derechos Humanos de los pueblos ind\u00c3\u00acgenas de la ONU son ignorados tanto por e.l gobierno de su pa\u00c3\u00acs como por el nuestro.<\/p>\n Desafortunadamente los gobiernos de Estados Unidos con el Plan Colombia y el apoyo a la que el actual gobierno colombiano llama \u201cseguridad democr\u00e1tica\u201d, han contribuido mucho a nuestra situaci\u00f3n. Grandes empresas transnacionales, se han beneficiado con contratos petroleros o de gas, concesiones mineras, privatizaciones y bajos salarios y apuntan a la explotaci\u00f3n de la biodiversidad de nuestros territorios.<\/p>\n Para contribuir a que todo esto cambie, quisi\u00e9ramos que el nuevo presidente de Estados Unidos pudiera personalmente o\u00edr nuestra palabra, la palabra que nos ha costado vidas y que defendemos todos los d\u00edas con nuestra voz, nuestro caminar y nuestra resistencia civil. Es la palabra que desde el 10 de octubre pasado paseamos por toda Colombia en la Minga de Resistencia, gran movilizaci\u00f3n nacional que convocamos desde nuestros pueblos ind\u00edgenas, en asocio con otros pueblos y procesos.<\/p>\n Queremos que el nuevo presidente de Estados Unidos pueda o\u00edr personalmente que en un pa\u00eds donde tantos son y han sido asesinados, desaparecidos, secuestrados, torturados y exilados, oponemos a los fusiles la palabra, a la violencia la palabra, al conformismo la resistencia civil, que sepa que nos movilizamos por miles a pesar de las balas, la represi\u00f3n y las calumnias.<\/p>\n Creemos que el esp\u00edritu de cambio de su pueblo es incontenible. Que es una poderosa fuerza que se juntar\u00e1 con nuestra palabra inmemorial y con la necesidad de cambio que expresa toda Am\u00e9rica Latina. Lo invitamos a que la oiga aqu\u00ed en Colombia y estamos dispuestos a ir a nombrarla all\u00e1 si usted decide invitarnos para que podamos llegar con ella hasta Washington. Aqu\u00ed o all\u00e1 es el mismo planeta que tenemos como misi\u00f3n cuidar y en las circunstancias actuales, salvar, juntos, todos.<\/p>\n Finalmente, debemos asumir respetuosamente nuestra verdadera dimensi\u00f3n frenta a la Madre Tierra y a la Historia. La primera, nos ha dado toda la vida. La segunda, hija de la primera, es el quehacer de los seres humanos en sociedades y sistemas que no han madurado para alcanzar la armon\u00eda y el equilibrio que se requiere.<\/p>\n Como seres humanos, hijos de la misma Madre Tierra, le hablamos como hermanos. Como ind\u00edgenas, le hablamos como pueblos, fruto de la Ley de Or\u00edgen que nos obliga a buscar y reclamar el equilibrio y la armon\u00eda entre la Historia y la Madre Tierra. Reconciliar la historia de los seres humanos con los ritmos y procesos de la naturaleza no es una opci\u00f3n, sino un imperativo impostergable.<\/p>\n La codicia, la sacralizaci\u00f3n de la acumulaci\u00f3n, la transformaci\u00f3n de la vida en mercanc\u00eda explica la crisis de su pa\u00eds, el desastre econ\u00f3mico y el inevitable fin de la vida como consecuencia de una econom\u00eda que lo destruye todo para que algunos sacien su codicia. La destrucci\u00f3n de nuestros pueblos en Colombia, es consecuencia de esta equivocaci\u00f3n que hoy llamamos crisis.<\/p>\n Hermano Presidente electo Obama. No le escribimos para pedirle nada en particular para nosotros, porque sabemos que la muerte de nuestros pueblos, el fin de nuestras culturas a manos de una codicia equivocada, simboliza el fin de la vida toda. We congratulate you for having won because of the noblest aspirations of your people. We believe your election expresses the deep desire for change felt by the majority of the American people: change in the economy and society, change in international relations, and from there, we hope, a change in the relation between the United States of America and the indigenous peoples of the world.<\/p>\n During your campaign, you noted some of what Colombians face: you acknowledged the murders of unionists by the regime and stated your reservations about a Free Trade Agreement with Colombia, which our people have decided against through a democratic referendum about which we have written before link to letter to Pelosi. We thank you for this, and want you to know about the situation of Colombia’s indigenous peoples. In the past six years we have lost 1200 people to assassinations by armed groups both legal and illegal: paramilitaries, guerrillas, police, and military personnel. These murders have created insecurity and the insecurity has been used to strip us of our rights with what we call the ‘Disposession Laws’, laws that legalize the loss of our lands, our fundamental freedoms and our rights. The ‘Disposession Laws’, dispose of Colombia’s mines, hydrocarbons, waters, intellectual property, national parks \u2013 all of these are brought under the ultimate rule of the Free Trade Agreement with the US. The FTA will mean that if Colombia tries to change the laws to allow its peoples to share in its resources, or take any independent action, then we will obliged to compensate investors. We will have to submit our laws to international arbitration outside our own legal jurisdiction. view, the ultimate law is respect for life. In our view, the FTA puts commercial logic above the respect for life itself, not to mention international humanitarian law and agreements such as the ILO’s Covenant 169 and the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples of the UN. These covenants, as well as the respect for life, have to date been ignored by the government of our country, as well as by your government.<\/p>\n
and to Mother Earth, while multinational corporations have profited from the petroleum and gas contracts, mining concessions, privatizations, and
low wages.<\/p>\n
we have walked and words we have backed up with our civil resistance. These are the words that we shared around all of Colombia since October 10
in the Minga of Resistance, a national mobilization we convened as indigenous peoples in association with other peoples and processes.<\/p>\n
force of our words and with the need for change that has been crying out throughout Latin America. We invite you to come to listen to these words here in Colombia and we are ready to pronounce them there if you invite us. The destruction of our peoples in Colombia is a consequence of that Historic error that has placed greed before life. Brother President elect Barack Obama, we do not write to ask or demand anything for ourselves, because we know that the death of our peoples and the destruction of our cultures for greed, signifies the beginning of the end for Mother Earth itself.
